Lanny McDonald eat your heart out....

I just came across a great article by Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star which chronicles the changing ways hockey players should focus on with their diet and daily eating habits. While the article is based around those playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, it is something any player should focus more attention on not just to benefit their body and mind at the rink but even more so away from it...

The days of watching commercials with athletes hawking fast food and other forms of junk food that has padded the waist lines at the expense of a star making a few bucks at the same time are slowly becoming a thing of the past. There was a time when Lanny McDonald would sell you on going to McDonalds, Wayne Gretzky would get you to try a Domino's Pizza or even a 7 Up pop and who can forget the Mark Messier Frito Lays commericals.

To see the likes of Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin or a Steve Stamkos put their name and face behind a healthy alternative would do wonders at hitting home the importance for youngsters to pay more attention to their daily diet.

The days of loading up on carbs and being scarfing down on fast food should be a thing of the past; this article hits home on what todays athlete should focus on in order to achieve their max performance in all avenues of their daily lives.
